Young Officer Chad Tanaka cursed siliently under his breath.  His training had never covered supernatural creatures. He was investigating reports of children on the Green.  Given some of the recent reports, he didn't think that it was children -- or even human.  Still that did not prepare him to coming face to face with a dozen frog creatures.

Each creature was about 50 cm tall.  It looked like a frog that was wearing a turtle shell, a ducks bill, and a monk's tonsure.  The tonsure was actually a depression in the skull that held water.  It had very human like hands.  Some of them carried sticks. Officer Tanaka tried to remember where he had seen such things. A vision of his childhood kitchen and crayons swam before his eyes.

The creature came out in a rush and formed a semi-circle in front of him. They took turns rushing towards the officer and trying to knock him over.

Where had he seen these things before?  He can remember colouring and his obaachan (grandmother) telling him stories.

These creatures were stronger than they looked.  The blows took the breath out of the officer.  The creatures were too quick for him.  He tried to draw his gun, but the next attack knocked it violently from his hands.  He fell to his knees and wondered what his obaachan had told him.

From the shadows, two cats emerged and sat on either side of him.  On his right was the large orange tom cat of the area.  Cee for Cat. on his left was a black and white fuzz ball that looked about 4 months old.  Officer Tanaka did not know his name. The attacks stopped.  Officer Tanaka struggled to his feet.

One of the Kappa stepped forward and thrust one froggie arm up and pointed it at him.  It then threw its arm down with a violent jerk.  Some sort of challenge?

The leader of the Kappa squatted down with the side to side rocking motion of a sumo wrestler. Officer Tanaka mirrored the motion.

Suddenly, a Kappa dressed in an elaborate kimono entered the circle.  He was squaking and motioning eraticly with his arms.  His skinny green arms looked very strange coming out of the wide kimono sleeves.

What was is that obaachan said?  It was important.  It was necessary.  It was POLITE!

Officer Tanaka stood up straight and gave a deep bow to the Kappa. Unable to resist such a polite action, the Kappa returned the bow, and emptied the water that was in their skull depression.

The Kappa all turned a sickly tan colour.  Many fell to their knees as if suddenly remdered weak.  The wind picked up and the Kappa were turned to dust and blew away.
