Life had definately taken a downturn for Abby.  The money her father gave her wasn't going to last long.  She found a rooming house that was clean and neat.  She made herself useful by helping the landlady.  She discovered that she could run faster than a horsen, was strong as a sailor, and could use any type of weapon.  She delivered messsages and chopped wood.  Neither was a suitable occupation for a yound lady. But being a lady of societety was no longer an option.

None of her old set would even acknowlege her now.  She had tried at the houses of friends, but her card was always returned -- torn in half.

The nights were the worse.  Now that her eyes were opened, she saw monsters everywhere.  She wondered why nobody saw them.  She also saw the poverty that was right there in her city.  Mere blocks from where she lived.  They led such precarious lives. The monsters preyed on them.  This insensed Abby and she decided that she had to do something.

One of the things she discovered was that is was hard to fight in skirts.  She decided to crop her hair and don breeches like the maid in the song:

Jack-A-Roe:

She went into a tailor shop

And dressed in men's array

And stepped on board a vessel

To convey herself away

Oh, to convey herself away.

But there was no handsome gentleman in her song.  Just monsters.

Eventually she discovered an organization dedicated to fighting the monsters.  They took care of her expenses, and she got to travel the world.

And kill monsters.
