Graveshade could see his lost quarry.  It was the one who had broken the link that joined them.  She was still weak.  He could take her.  With her was another woman.  She was smaller and weaker.  She would be no problem.

They were coming out of a large red brick building.  The building had the stench of the recently deceiced.  Graveshade was tempted to go eat there. But what he was following was strong prey.  If he ate it, he would get much stronger.  Stronger that he had become after he ate the harpies.  This one had defeated the harpies.  It would be good. And it was now weak.

The prey passed between a boarded up building and a large warehouse. Now was the time to strike.  The light was not good and the prey would not be able to call for assistance.

He hid in the shadow and climbed on to the roof of the deserted building.

His target tensed. She could sense him.  He stopped moving and stayed quiet.

"Do you feel that Laura?"

"No I don't -- what does it feel like?"

"The scratches on my back are tingling."

"Could it be the vampire?"

"I don't know.  I just get the feeling I am being watched."

The smaller woman took the bag off her back and started opening it.

They were aware of him.  But he was patient.  He will wait until they had relaxed their guard.

"Abby, while you were comatose, I did some research on our friend."

"What did you find out?"

"I read the police report on the first vampire attack."

"That was the one on one of the 'ghosts' of Fredericton?"

"Yes.  There was something interesting.  Some of the witnesses say the vampire burst into flame.  They could even smell the charred flesh."

"Yes, that is interesting."

"It turns out that the theatre people were using UV light to make parts of their costumes glow."

"And why are we standing here talking about this?"

"Just to let you know. Let's keep walking."

The two of them walked away from where Graveshade was hiding.   Graveshade followed them always keeping on the other side of the roofline so they would not be able to detect him.

They came to the open field where the train tracks used to run.  It was dark and enclosed by overgrown bushes.  There was no one else around.  Graveshade decided to make his move.  He leapt down off the roof and along the bushes.  His target was just standing there.  The other was fiddling with her backpack again.  No better time then the present.

He got up to speed and ran towards them with his hands trailing behind him, claws fully extended.  The girl with the backpack spun round holding what looked like the hilt of a sword.  If Graveshade had of known about lightsabers, that what he would have called it.  But he could see no blade.  He stopped and dropped to the ground. The girl swung the weapon around like it was a sword. He still couldn't see anything.  He got up to start another run, then she pointed the weapon driectly at him.  It burned.  His blood was boiling.  It was as if he were out in the sun!  Or when he attacked that first person in the alley. He dodged to the side, but cover now looked miles away.  He crawled, his flesh burning and turning to ash.  The ashes floated up into the sky.

Laura ran up to the vampire, still keeping the light on him.  She was careful not to get close enough that it could swipe her.  Soon she was covered in soft grey powder.  She kept at it, not letting it out of the beam.  It fed on people.  Many had dies because of this thing.  She was not going to let it get away.

"Laura, that's enough.  It's nothing but ash now."  Abby had picked up Laura's backpack and was limping towards her. "You have to let it go!"

"But I couldn't do anything to the Boogeyman or the kameneko.  I felt so useless."

"You has the best weapon of all -- the right information at the right time.  That's what we need.  Super strength and super speed are more common than you think, just look at Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  What is really important is knowing what you are up against.  I almost lost to this creature because I treated it just like any other vampire.  That was a mistake on my part.  You might no be the one wading in blood, but you are the one to make sure it is their blood -- not ours.  I'm tired, let's go home."

"Ok, maybe you're right.  But I think I should learn some martial arts, just in case."

"Maybe you can download it into your brain like on the Matrix."

"You watched that?"

Their voices faded of into the night and the last particiles of what was once Graveshade floated into the november air.
