November always made the campus look tired.  Midterms had come and gone and now was the time that students discovered that they actually had to put effort into their school work if they wanted to pass.  Well that was for the ones that were actually here to learn.

Gone were the gayly coloured leaves decorating the trees of October.  Now the reality of the stark November branches against the gray sky made everyone turn up their collars against the cold and hunker down to business.

Physically, Norv was a very unassuming looking person. His light brown hair always looked as if he had just woken up.  He thought spending excess amount of time on his hair was ridickulous.  As long as it was out of his eyes he was happy.  He was slightly above average height and looked a touch paunchy in his uniform.  Many a young buck had thought that he could take advantage of this "wimpy" rent-a-cop.  They were wrong.  Norv was very good at his job.  He studied different forms of martial arts and knew exactly how to take someone down without hurting them.  It was even easier since the attacker was usually drunk.

Norville had been working at a security guard for years.  It was more like babysitting the spoiled kids of the rich.  Making sure they didn't drown in thier own vomit when they tried to consume more alcohol than the human body can stand.  Keeping the over-rambunctious from testing themselves by skateboarding down the hill in one go.  Some of these rotten kids decided to redecorate the side of the buildings. Most of them got money either from their parents or from the government or a few could twist the situation and get a double bankroll.

These kids didn't know what it meant to work for a living.

These kids never gave a second thought to all the people that enabled them to live their precious lives.  The janitors who cleaned their messes, the cooks who kept them fed, the professors who taught them, hell even their parents who paid for the beer never got a second look.  These kids just stomped on them as they went around doing whatever they wanted. Going from one trill to the next.

Norv thought that both the parents and the government could being spending its money on worthier endeavors.  Like building bigger jails.

Norville straightened his green jacket with pride.  These kids would never take pride in anything they acheived.  They had done nothing that was worth anything.  Life was always handed to them on a platter.  They were sent through school like an assembly line.  The child speciallists said: "It would hurt their self image if they were held back."  Bullshit.  It would teach them to pay attention.  All these kids needed a wake up call.

It made Norville sad that he couldn't teach these punks a lesson.

The evening darkened into night.  There was a fewer than normal number of students on campus tonight.  Norv blamed it on the "Ghosts of Downtown".  Instead of being sensible and avoiding the undead, the stupid students were having "Ghost Spotting" parties.  They would go to a downtown pub, get liquored up, then wandered around downtown bothering people and looking for ghosts.

Norv had thought it was some attention getting hoax, but the appearances were widely seen and  were reported by a variety of people, and had been going on for over a week with no one admitting to it or being caught in the process.

Norv wondered what would happen if demons started showing up downtown.  I bet there wouldn't be any more "Ghost Spotting" parties.  Norv snorted.  These kids wouldn't know what to do with an imp, much less a demon. That would be worth seeing.  Then these kids would really know what pain was.

He looked at his watch  Almost 2:00am.  At least these "ghosts" made for a quiet night.  Soon he could get home and go online to a world better than this one.
