It was a tired group the returned to Laura's apartment.

In the space of a few days they had defeated three major creatures and many smaller ones.

Abby looked the worse.  Even with the healing given to her from Freyja, she was bone tired.  Abby said her goodbye and headed to her own apartment for a long hot bath.

Ku'uaki sat on one of the chairs and Laura went into the kitchen to make some tea.

"So now what, Ku'uaki?" Laura asked as she waited for her tea to cool.

"Freyja mentioned that she was 'invited' to this world by someone.  This someone made the hole or is the hole."

"Can we find out who it is?"

"Let me finish my tea and I'll ask the spirits.  But I don't think they will be very helpful.  Last time I talked to them they were very confused about the situation."

They sat and drank their tea in silence.  Both of them too tired to make small talk.  Liz jumped up on the table and rubbed against any hand that came near her.

Ku'uaki finished his tea and set the cup on the table.

"It's too bad you don't use loose tea, Laura, I could do a reading"

"You would try reading tea leaves?  Is that accurate?"

"Right now I'd use a magic eight ball.  My normal methods channels don't seem to no anything.  But I'll try again."

Ku'uaki sat down on the floor and closed his eyes in meditation.

Playful breezes filled the room and sent the spongey balls flying.  Liz forgot her fears and threw herself into the game.  Spongey balls made imposible right angled turns in mid air.  Liz tried to match them, but she was constrained by the laws of physics.  Eventually she just sat in one place and made half harted swipes with her paw as the balls flew by.

Ku'uaki opened his eyes.

"They still don't know what is causing this.  It is like nothing they have seen before."

"I guess we are left with reasoning this out.  Are your 'little grey cells' working?"

"They are going to have to."

Laura turned to her computer and opened a spreadsheet program.

"Lets start with what we know.  What creatures have we met?"

"Shadow wolves, kappa, Freyja and the Valkyries, Swamp vampire, kameneko, harpies."

"None of those are native to Fredericton, " Laura said with a smirk. "Where are they normally found?"

"Japan, Greece, northern europe, a computer game ... "

"Computer game, Just give me a sec...."  Laura's fingers clattered over the keyboard.  "ALL those monsters can be found in the same computer game: a MMORPG called World of EverFantasy."

"MMORPG?"

"Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.  It's a make-believe world for geeks.  They go online to forget the real world."

"So how could creatures from a world that exists only in a computer somewhere get into the real world?"

"I read once that believe creates reality.  If enough people believe in something, then it becomes real in some dimention of the universe."

"Yes, that is a standard [frame of thought] around the Conspiracy."

"Well, World of EverFantasy is is the biggest online game going.  It follows that they have created their own dimention.  Expanding on that, enough people are using the Internet, so it has become its own dimention which I can tap into. Since the Internet has only been [everywhere] for the past five to ten years, no one had 'cyber powers' and that explains why I'm such a new thing."

"That all follows.  So lunar eclipse bought out latent psyic powers in the Inviter.  This Inviter discovers he can conjure creatures from this World of EverFantasy.  He is obviously getting either stronger or smarter because the summoned creatures are getting bigger and more dangerous."

"What do you think he'll call on next?"

"The biggest and baddest creatures have always been the demons of Hell.  I'm worried that this World of EverQuest actually connects to other dimentions an a true demon is summoned."

"How can we stop it?"

"To have the demon arrive at full strength, a gate must be created for it to cross through.  We need to find out where the gate is and destroy it before it opens completely.  Once it is opened, only the creator can close it."

"That would be bad.  Now how can we find the gate?"

"Normally I would look for disturbances on the elemental plain -- but this gate wouldn't be on it."

"But it would be in cyberspace.  I can trace wires.... Hmmm .... How would you check the elemental plain?"

"I would go into astral form and travel through it at the speed of light."

"So, as a cyber mage I should be able to do the same -- except I would travel the internet."

"We can try."
